Battery disposal information
Information under § 24 BattDG and Art. 74 of the EU Batteries Regulation · last update: 22 October 2026
Some of our watches, mainly those with a quartz movement, contain a battery, usually a button cell. In connection with selling these watches we are required to inform you of the following.
Batteries do not belong in household waste
Waste batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. As an end user you are legally required to collect waste batteries separately from unsorted municipal waste and take them to a return point. This helps ensure that waste batteries are treated properly and valuable raw materials can be recovered.
Free return
You can return waste batteries free of charge:
- to us: at our atelier, Tölzer Straße 1, 82031 Grünwald, Germany (by appointment), or by post to this address. Please let us know before sending: info@timeboutique.de, +49 89 38164962;
- at the public collection points of your town or municipality, e.g. a recycling centre;
- at retailers, wherever batteries are sold (collection boxes).
If we replace your watch's battery as part of a service, we dispose of the old battery properly for you.
Meaning of the symbols
The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol means that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste but must be collected separately. If the chemical symbols Hg, Cd or Pb appear below it, the battery contains mercury, cadmium or lead above the legal limits.
Effects on the environment and health
Batteries can contain substances such as heavy metals or electrolytes that can harm the environment and health if batteries are disposed of improperly, for example in household waste or in nature. Separate collection and recycling prevent this and allow raw materials such as silver, zinc or lithium to be recovered.
Safe handling
- Keep button cells out of the reach of children. Swallowed button cells can cause severe internal injuries within a short time. Seek medical help immediately if this happens.
- Lithium batteries can cause fires if damaged or short-circuited. Tape over the terminals before returning them and hand in damaged batteries separately.
Preventing waste
You help prevent waste by using batteries for as long as possible and having your watch maintained. Have an empty battery replaced promptly: an exhausted battery can leak and damage the movement.
We are happy to help.
